The Story Behind the Hole 11 Watercolor

Framed Tom Lynch watercolor print of Hole 11 at American Lake Veterans Golf Course, signed by Jack Nicklaus

Renowned watercolor artist Tom Lynch created this interpretation of Hole 11, the signature hole at American Lake Veterans Golf Course. Lynch, whose work has included golf landscapes associated with the U.S. Open and PGA events, donated his talents and materials in support of the course and its mission.

The idea to turn the artwork into a fundraising opportunity came from Major General Gene Danials, U.S. Army Retired, a Director of the Friends of the American Lake Veterans Golf Course. His concept brought together art, golf, and philanthropy in a way that created something both meaningful and enduring.

Prints were produced from Lynch’s original watercolor, and a limited group was numbered and personally signed by Jack Nicklaus. Additional unsigned and unnumbered prints were also produced and offered for sale, allowing the artwork to support fundraising efforts at different contribution levels.

The prints later became part of broader fundraising initiatives for the course, including the Front Nine Renovation Campaign. Numbered Nicklaus signed prints were presented to major donors, while other signed and unsigned editions helped recognize additional levels of support.

The artwork represents much more than a view of Hole 11. It reflects the generosity of Tom Lynch, the vision of Major General Gene Danials, the support of Jack Nicklaus, and the many donors and volunteers who have helped advance the mission of American Lake Veterans Golf Course.

It is a lasting reminder of what can happen when people contribute their talents, ideas, and resources in support of those who served.
