Playing at American Lake
What to Know Before Your First Round
American Lake is open to Veterans, service members and their families. This page covers who can play, what to bring, and how things work once you are on the course. None of it is complicated, and if you are unsure about anything, ask us before you come out.
Who Can Play
You Are Welcome Here
American Lake is for anyone who has served or is serving in the United States Armed Forces, along with their spouses and dependent children aged seven and older. That includes:
Active duty and retired military
National Guard and Reserves
Anyone holding a DD214
Anyone holding a Veterans Universal Access Identification Card
VA hospital in-patients
Bring military or Veteran identification the first time you come out, and sign in before you start play. If you are not sure what counts, contact us and we will sort it out with you.
Bringing Guests
Each player may bring up to three guests, and guests play alongside their sponsor for the whole round. A sponsor plus three guests makes a group of four, which is the largest group the course allows at any time. Dependent children aged seven and older are welcome on the same basis. Guests pay the guest rate.
On the Course
How Things Work Once You Are Here
American Lake is run by volunteers, and the course stays in good shape because the people playing it look after it. A few things worth knowing.
Clubs: Every player needs a set of clubs. If you do not have your own, ask us before you come out. Volunteers refurbish donated equipment and may be able to help.
Carts: Accessible mobility carts are welcome on the greens. Drive straight on and straight off, with no turns. Standard golf carts stay off greens and tees, out of the gap between bunkers and greens, and at least thirty feet from any green. You need to be sixteen or older with a current valid driver license to drive a cart, and course managers may keep carts off the course when conditions would damage the fairways or greens.
Looking after the course: Replace your divots, rake the bunkers, repair your ball marks, and handle the flagsticks with care. Take your litter with you.
Pace of play: Groups are a maximum of four players. Keep up with the group ahead, and wave a faster group through when you can.
Alcohol and drugs: Alcohol and drugs are not permitted. Signs posted around the property apply to everyone, and play may be restricted for anyone not following them.
Come Play
Reserve a tee time and come out.
