Mission & Impact
Built to Serve. Sustained by Service.
ALVGC exists to give Veterans and their families a welcoming, affordable place for recreation, connection, and the game of golf.
For generations, Veterans have come here to play, spend time together, and be part of a community. What makes ALVGC remarkable is that the same spirit of service found among those who use the course has also sustained it.
The course is part of the story.
The commitment to veterans is the reason it continues.
ALVGC has served veterans in Lakewood since the 1950s, but its future was far from certain.
In 1995, federal funding for the operation and maintenance of VA golf courses ended. Faced with the possibility of losing something veterans had valued for decades, volunteers stepped forward to keep ALVGC operating.
That decision changed the course of its history.
Friends of ALVGC was later formed to raise the resources needed to improve the course and invest in its future. What followed was not one project or one campaign, but years of people contributing their time, expertise, and financial support because they believed Veterans deserved a place like ALVGC.
That spirit continues today.
OUR STORY
The Moment That Defined ALVGC
OUR IMPACT
What That Commitment Has Made Possible
The impact of ALVGC is reflected in both the people it serves and the community that supports it.
Veterans Supported
A place where Veterans and military families can experience golf, recreation, and connection.
$14M+ Invested
Friends of ALVGC has invested more than $14 million in projects and equipment that have expanded what ALVGC can provide for Veterans.
Volunteer Power
More than 200 volunteers contribute their time and skills to help operate, maintain, and support ALVGC.
No Paid Staff
ALVGC continues to rely on an extraordinary volunteer community to carry out its daily operations.
The numbers show the scale of the commitment. The real impact is found in the Veterans who continue to use, value, and return to what that commitment has made possible.
POWERED BY SERVICE
A Community That Keeps the Mission Moving
ALVGC works because many people contribute to the same purpose.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs provides the home for the course. Volunteers contribute the time and expertise required to operate it. Friends of ALVGC raises resources for improvements and equipment. Sponsors, foundations, donors, community organizations, and individuals help make continued investment possible.
Each plays a different role, but together they ensure ALVGC remains available to the veterans who depend on it today and to those who will discover it in the years ahead.
What exists here was built through service. Its future will be too.
