The American Lake Veterans Golf Course (ALVGC) is proud to announce that Jack Nicklaus, golf's iconic "Golden Bear," has designated the 18 hole course in Lakewood, WA as an official Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. This confirms that the renovation of the original front nine holes and the addition of a new back nine holes have been completed to the high standards set by the Nicklaus Organization.

Jack Nicklaus's public endorsement draws renewed attention to the ALVGC mission: to provide an inclusive, life changing environment for active duty, retired, and veteran service members and their families. The course features an ADA accessible layout uniquely designed to meet the needs of wounded, mobility impaired, and disabled golfers, allowing them to "heal through the power of golf."

‍ "Our veterans deserve a world-class, accessible facility. Jack's recognition reinforces that they now have that."

The Nicklaus Organization donated its time and resources to the project. ALVGC funded the entire construction through community and foundation contributions, fundraisers, and private donations. Since opening in 1956, the ALVGC has managed the operation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the course solely through a large team of dedicated volunteers. The Friends of ALVGC has invested over $14 million since 2002 in construction projects and equipment. There are no paid staff members, and the course receives no federal funding.

American Lake is built and run by volunteers. Come play it, or help keep it going.
